does etsy take a cut

Question

does etsy take a cut

Hi everyone,

I'm a new seller on Etsy and I'm trying to figure out how Etsy makes money. I know they charge a listing fee, but do they also take a cut of each sale?

I'm trying to understand how much money I'll actually make from each sale, so any information would be appreciated.

Hi there,

Welcome to Etsy!

Etsy charges two types of fees: listing fees and transaction fees.

Listing fees are charged for each item you list on Etsy. The fee is $0.20 USD for one listing, and it's charged once, when you first list the item.

Transaction fees are charged for each sale you make on Etsy. The fee is 6.5% of the total sale price, and it's charged when the sale is completed.

So, to answer your question, yes, Etsy does take a cut of each sale. The cut is 6.5% of the total sale price.

Here's an example:

If you sell an item for $100, Etsy will charge you a listing fee of $0.20 and a transaction fee of $6.50.

Your total earnings from the sale will be $93.30.

I hope this helps!

Best of luck with your Etsy shop!

Hi there,

Yes, Etsy does take a cut of each sale. The cut is 6.5% of the total sale price.

In addition to the transaction fee, Etsy also charges a listing fee for each item you list on their marketplace. The listing fee is $0.20 USD.

So, if you sell an item for $100, Etsy will charge you a listing fee of $0.20 and a transaction fee of $6.50.

Your total earnings from the sale will be $93.30.

Etsy uses these fees to cover the costs of running their marketplace, such as customer service, marketing, and fraud prevention.

Here are some tips for maximizing your earnings on Etsy:

Set competitive prices. Make sure you're pricing your items high enough to cover your costs and make a profit, but not so high that you'll scare away customers.
Offer free shipping. Free shipping is a great way to attract customers and increase your sales.
Run promotions and discounts. Promotions and discounts can help you clear out inventory and boost sales.
Market your shop. Let people know about your shop by promoting it on social media, running ads, and participating in online forums.
By following these tips, you can increase your earnings on Etsy and make a successful business.

Good luck!

Offer digital products. Digital products, such as digital downloads, don't incur any listing or transaction fees.
Sell in bulk. The more you sell, the less of a percentage each fee will represent.
By following these tips, you can minimize the impact of Etsy's fees on your earnings and make a successful business.

Good luck!
